Brown Banded Cockroaches
Brown-Banded cockroaches get their name from the pale brown bands that run across the wings of the adult and across the body of the nymph. This species is not nearly as predominant as the others, but occurs throughout the United States.
Adult Brown-Banded cockroaches are about 1/2" long. They are light brown to brown in color, with wings darker at the base and paler brown towards the tips. Males readily fly, but females cannot fly.
Egg capsules are about 1/4" long but contain only about 7-9 eggs per side (total 14-18 eggs). The female carries the egg capsule for about 24-36 hours and then attaches it to the sides or underside of shelves, furniture, picture frames, etc. The female may produce an average of 14 egg capsules. Developmental time from egg to adult is about 3-6 months. Adults live about 200 days average.
Brown-Banded cockroaches are found throughout structures but prefer warmer areas, over 80°F. Favorite areas include ceilings, items high on walls, such as picture frames, moldings and shelves, near appliance motors, light switches, closets and furniture.
